On 29 May 2007 the ABC News Online reported that “NSW reprimand won't affect pathologist in SA”. It said that South Australia’s Medical Board says a senior forensic pathologist will continue to practice in SA despite being reprimanded interstate. Dr Allan Cala received a reprimand and fine from the New South Wales Medical Board when he was found guilty of unsatisfactory professional conduct. It related to a post-mortem examination by Dr Cala in which he incorrectly found that a couple had died in a car accident when they had been murdered. South Australian Medical Board registrar Joe Hooper says that, while the reprimand is recognised in SA, Dr Cala's registration has not been affected by the disciplinary action in NSW. "In terms of the regulation of the profession, it's an example of regulation having proper effects and doctors being held accountable to the public and I think that's a positive result," he said.
